Our dear Bob Boyle passed away last night (August 1st) at the age of 100 years young. Bob lived an extraordinary life—painting on Sunday afternoons in the 1930s in Mexico with Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, documenting World War II as a combat cameraman, becoming a husband and father, designing classic films with Alfred Hitchcock, Don Siegel and Norman Jewison, and spending the last 25 years of his life teaching a handful of lucky production design students at the AFI. Bob was extremely generous, witty, humble, wise, and humane. Bob’s spirit lives on, in his movies and in our hearts. We will miss him dearly.
